Wedding Done, Honeymoon Over, Now Lets Change Our Name

Tags

,

So now that the wedding is over and the honeymoon is done, its time to change your name (if your changing it).  I know most of us girls are old-fashioned and can’t wait to change our name.  My advice, is to change your name as soon as you come back from the honeymoon.  Once you visit the Social Security office and the DMV, the rest is a cake walk.  I suggest making a list of all the items you need to change your name and check it off as you go.  Also, there are a lot of places that offer Name Change Kits.  I didn’t use one but I am sure it would be very helpful to you girls.

Visit A Fabric Store To Choose Your Color Scheme

Tags

Unsure of your wedding colors, visit a fabric store.  Compare the fabrics you like against one another and see how it looks together.  You might find a color scheme you like.  Then when you choose your weddings colors, get swathes of the fabrics.  At a Hancock Fabrics or JoAnn Fabrics, you may have to buy a 1/4 of a yard whereas at an upholstery store, you may just be able to take a swatch right off the roll.  Now that you have your wedding colors, make sure your bring the colors with you when your picking out the bridal party dress, planning your centerpieces, favors, and/or invitations if you want to go that far with coordination.  Have fun with it.  You will be the designer of your wedding :).

Trying To By A House While Your Planning A Wedding…

Tags

Are you trying to drive yourself crazy????   Planning a wedding is timely and a huge expense and the same for buying a house.  But I can totally understand the desire to do both at the same time.  Along with having a wedding budget, make a budget for a house as well.  Since time is money and you will be splitting your time between wedding planning and buying a house, have a realtor who is going to work hard for you.  Only see houses that peak your interest from online.  Once you find the one, try to make the closing well before the big day in case you have some renovations you may want to do.  You don’t want to deal with moving right before the day.  So if you’re embarking on this adventure, congratulations.  I am sure it will be nice to come home to a house you own after saying “I Do” and enjoying your honeymoon.

Which Ring Is Yours?

Tags

Okay ladies, so I held off on writing this post because it may come off shallow but once again, it’s just my opinion.  Now for those ladies who know a ring is coming let me give you a piece of advice….tell your boyfriend what you want.  I’m not saying demand this size or else but tell him the style you want.  Just as we all have planned our weddings since we were little girls, I am sure you have dreamed of what our ring would be like.  I have heard friends saying they had nightmares of their ring having feathers and it flying they were so terrified of what they were getting.

I know there are you girls, like me, who still want to be surprised and I get that.  But if you give your guy a few details like cut of the ring and white gold or platinum, I think he can do the rest.  Your going to be looking at this ring for the rest of your life….don’t you want to love it.  I know I do :).

Plan A Non-Traditional Wedding

Tags

Weddings change over time and who says your wedding has to be the same way your parents was.  Break the tradition and do your own thing.  How about you writing your own vows, not getting married in the church, or having a small wedding.  Whatever you do, make it about you and your fiance.  Who knows, you may do something in your wedding, you may want to pass down to your child’s wedding day :).

Up Do or No Up Do????

So you have set the date, picked your dress, and now it times to figure out what you will do with your hair.  I say have many practice runs with your hair stylist.  Before you start the trial runs, have an idea of what you want.  If you have seen hair styles in magazines that you like, take them with you to the salon.  After each style, be sure to take a picture of the front and back so you have it for later decision-making :).  Have fun brides.  This is all about you!!!!

Picking A Theme For Your Wedding

Tags

I am sure you have had a theme for your wedding in your mind long before you were engaged :).   I know I did.  Mine was going to be a fall wedding with pumpkins and all my friends knew the theme.  Well 6 years before my wedding, my best friend was planning her day and she wanted to have pumpkins for her day.  Of course she asked me if it was okay to use pumpkins and it was fine by me since I was no where near planning my wedding.  So she choose pumpkins and 6 years later I still had a fall wedding in September but went with a slightly different theme.

My point is, you will most likely be planning a wedding amongst all your other friends planning weddings.  There could be a chance, themes may overlap and that’s okay.  It’s up to you to decide how different you want it to be.  Do you want a beach theme or a summer theme?  A pumpkin theme or a fall theme :).  No matter what you choose,  commit to your theme.  Its your day and theme it up the way you want :).

How Creative Are You???

Tags

This is for all you DIY brides who love to be creative.  If you love to make your own stationary, sew, knit, etc…try to build that into your wedding.  I know making a hundred invites or more may not be fun but maybe you can take part in making your bridal shower invites or your thank you’s.  Whatever you creative talent is, go with it.

By incorporating my love for quilting into my wedding, I was able to create the Wedding Photo Signature Quilt.  If you would love to add some creativity to your day, visit Orange Panda Designs.

When The Going Gets Tough, Keep On Planning

Tags

The brides who say planning a wedding is easy, are not being honest with themselves.  Planning a wedding is very stressful.  You will have your ups and downs with family, friends, your bridal party, and especially your fiance.  But no worries brides, it will all work out.   When you and your fiance are getting stressed, step back and remember what brought you to this lovely occasion.

Rome wasn’t built-in a day and what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.  All the craziness that happens during the planning, you will long back on in a year or two and laugh.  Then of course, you will realize all that chaos didn’t really matter now that you’re the Mrs. :).
